Meet the Staff

Summer Action cannot happen without dedicated staffers who choose to give up their summer to serve the Lord through Action.  These folks make many sacrifices to do this work.  They work for a very small stipend (often taking much less than they could earn elsewhere) to be part of our work and they're working 24/7!

One more week and we'll be under way here in Indy.  Pray for us for a great summer and for more of the Lord.  We'll do some updating as the summer unfolds.  Stay tuned.

Here's the all-star line-up for this summer:

Pam Seale.    "I love being wherever the Lord is noticeably busy going about building his kingdom on earth. Last year was my first serving on Action Summer. I thought I would be there to support the youth who would be coming to work and learn more about the Lord. I was wrong. Action was for me. It's for anyone who who likes to stretch themselves and see the Lord through another lens. I'm glad I'll be there for whatever happens this summer!"

Trish Brewer. "I'm working on Action this summer because I see the Lord redeeming the world through our prayer, hard work and friendships together."

Meghan Couch. "This summer, I am excited to grow in more unity with men and women throughout the People of Praise. I am blessed by the opportunity to get to know and labor with all of you."
Paul Hommes. "I’ve been building the Kingdom here in Indy one project at a time. I’m looking forward to having Action here to speed up the works."

David Gruber. "I am working action staff because I want to learn how to lead young people to the Lord."

George Kane. "I want to contribute to the Action summer’s tradition of challenging high school students to develop spiritual and physical endurance."
Laura Kane. "I love our life in the Triangle and I want to show younger brothers and sisters how wonderful it is to live and work together here."

Gabi Bendele. "After graduating high school I wanted to do something meaningful with my summer, and what would be more meaningful than spending my summer in the Lord's work?"
Matt Rubio. "I am working for POP Action this summer in order to gain more knowledge of God by doing His work."

Summer Plans '11

Plans are coming into focus for our Indy Action Summer 2011.  The growth of our work in Indy is going to keep everyone very busy this summer.

On the Southside we have recently purchased a very run down little duplex right on Karcher St.  (Karcher St. is the heart of our Christians in Mission work on the southside).  This house isn't very pretty... yet.  We'll probably end up gutting a lot of it and preparing it for eventual renovation.  I'll be posting some "before" pictures soon on this property.  This property is on the verge of ruin.  Pray the Lord provides the means to resurrect it from "mostly dead" to alive in Christ.

In the Triangle we have a big job to renovate a house that is currently two apartments but needs to be one single family house to accommodate our growing student population.  We'll need to fix up the kitchen, install a working laundry room and connect the two apartments in some livable way.  It's a real challenge.  We are growing from 22 to 27 in the campus work next fall so this project is important to making our life happen.

On both the Southside and in the Triangle, we plan to do a great deal of work on neighborhood improvements which include scraping, caulking, painting, landscaping, debris removal, and general fixing up.  No special skills required (other than willingness to work hard), so come on down and give us a hand.

I know I've mentioned this before but if you have some time to spare this summer we could use your help.  We're also looking for ways to fund our summer staff stipends.  The Action Summer Staffers are mostly college students who ask so very little for their summer of work with Action.  Despite the low, low stipends they receive, the cost of staff stipends remains a major expense of summer Action.  If you'd like to make a donation to help these folks, you can do so by sending a check to:

People of Praise,  attn:  John Xenakis

If you'll mark the check "Summer Action Staff" in the memo line that would really help.

May the Lord be with us this summer as we labor in his name.

Home Stretch

This is finals week here in Indy and everyone is busy but not too busy to spend Sunday celebrating Meghan Couch's graduation.  Meghan ended a fantastic undergraduate career and is ready to take on graduate school in the fall here in Indy.

For the past two years Meghan has been an all-star householder on our campus team.  She is always ready to pitch in and keep our work moving forward.  Last summer while taking a huge course load at IUPUI, she faithfully helped us out by supporting the action trips even taking turns at joining work crews and attending late evening staff meetings.  Her dedication and good cheer made everything go smoother for everyone.

This Saturday we'll host our final Lord's Day for the school year.  Then a few weeks off and then on to Action Summer.  We're still hoping to see you in Indy this summer.  Have you signed up for an Action trip?  How about coming along for a visit even if you can't spare that much time?  Anyway, it's going to be great and we wish you'd join us.

Here's some pix from Meghan's party:
